Al Hadath: Iran is ready to limit uranium enrichment for 10 years.
Iran has proposed an initiative during indirect negotiations with the United States, suggesting a 10-year moratorium on uranium enrichment above 3.6%. This was reported by the Saudi TV channel Al Hadath, citing sources. According to the informants, Tehran also expressed its readiness to dilute the already accumulated uranium enriched above 20% directly on its territory. In the draft of a possible memorandum, Iran confirmed its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons. In response, the Islamic Republic demanded the complete lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of its assets from Washington even before the next round of negotiations on the nuclear dossier begins.
Additionally, the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, stated that the parties are in the final stage of refining the memorandum of understanding. "After several weeks of negotiations between the two sides, it can be said that the trend is towards rapprochement," noted the diplomat. However, he added that this does not mean that the parties will be able to reach mutual understanding on all issues.
According to the Foreign Ministry representative, the parties will first prepare a memorandum of understanding consisting of 14 points, including key conditions for ending the war. Then, within a period of 30 to 60 days, the details of these issues will be agreed upon. Earlier, he stated that the issue of lifting restrictions is not being discussed at this stage; however, this demand is an "unchanging position" of Tehran and will be raised in the next stages after the basic agreement is developed.
Meanwhile, the commander of the Pakistani army, Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran on a mediation mission. He has already held meetings with the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Araghchi, and the speaker of parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Recently, media reported that the United States and Iran have agreed on a final draft of a peace agreement mediated by Pakistan. The document, among other things, provides for a ceasefire and a gradual lifting of sanctions, provided Iran meets the terms of the deal. Additionally, the draft agreement includes a clause on continuing negotiations on unresolved issues.
It is worth noting that on May 10, Iran, through Pakistani intermediaries, sent the United States a response to Washington's latest peace proposal. According to sources from The Wall Street Journal, Tehran refused to dismantle its nuclear facilities, which Washington insists upon. At the same time, the Iranian side is willing to suspend uranium enrichment, but not for the 20 years required by the U.S. Trump criticized Iran's response, calling it "completely unacceptable."
Later, media reported that the U.S. presented Iran with five conditions for continuing the conflict resolution process between the two countries. Among them is the refusal to pay compensation for damage caused during the bombings of Iranian territory.
