"Hot chemotherapy" was first used by oncologists during surgery in Tatarstan.

      The operation using "hot chemotherapy" was performed at the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary in Kazan. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Tatarstan, explaining that this technology is called HIPEC – hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

      On the operating table was a 38-year-old woman with pseudomyxoma peritonei – a rare disease that most often develops from an appendix tumor. Over time, the process spreads throughout the abdominal cavity, affecting the peritoneum and internal organs, specialists clarify.

      The operation lasted eight hours; in the first stage, a cytoreductive intervention was performed – the removal of all visible manifestations of the disease in the abdominal cavity. Then, through special tubes, a solution of the chemotherapy drug, heated to 42 degrees, was introduced into the patient's abdominal cavity. For one and a half hours, it continuously circulated within the abdominal cavity, affecting microscopic foci of the disease that may remain after the removal of all visible manifestations of the illness. This is why the method is called "hot chemotherapy."

      "The operation was the first experience of using the HIPEC technology in the Republic of Tatarstan. The intervention was successful; today the patient feels well and is under round-the-clock supervision by specialists," the message states.
