The Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC) has decided to suspend Prosecutor Karim Khan from his duties. This is stated in a message from the organization. The decision was made by a qualified majority vote at the meeting on June 8. At the same time, the Assembly emphasized that it is not final. A special session is planned to further consider the situation. Karim Khan is under investigation for allegations of sexual harassment. In May 2025, the ICC announced his administrative leave until the investigation is completed. Later, media reports emerged about a second allegation of a similar nature. Khan has held the position of ICC Prosecutor since 2021. The investigation against him is ongoing.
In 2023, Khan requested an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova. After that, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against Khan and several ICC judges. In 2024, the ICC also issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. After that, the United States imposed sanctions against the court, accusing it of abuse of power.
