In the BSMC, the patient had her heart valves restored using a minimally invasive method.

Cardiac surgeons at the R.S. Akchurin Emergency Medical Hospital were the first in Tatarstan to apply a new treatment technology. The doctors restored the mitral and tricuspid valves through a mini-access, reported the Minister of Health of Tatarstan, Almir Abashev, on his channel on MAX. "I was with my children at a trampoline center. I fell awkwardly on my back. At first, I didn't feel much pain, just a little ache in my back. After five months, I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. An examination showed that my heart was enlarged," said the patient. The doctors found that the patient's mitral valve was damaged. In such a pathology, the valve leaf does not close completely, causing blood to partially return to the atrium during ventricular contraction. This overloads the heart. Previously, in such cases, doctors performed open-heart surgery, but in this case, they used a new minimally invasive technology. "We performed a right-sided thoracotomy. An 8-centimeter intercostal incision was made on the right side, through this mini-access we 'repaired' two valves at once: the damaged mitral valve was replaced with a mechanical one, and we performed plastic surgery on the tricuspid valve," said cardiac surgeon Damir Khaisaro. Rami Yakubov, head of the cardiovascular surgery department at the hospital, explained that the doctors used the cryoablation technique. Using a special probe, which reaches a temperature of -80°C, they froze certain areas of the atrial tissue. The frozen cells lost the ability to conduct chaotic electrical impulses, thus restoring the correct heart rhythm. As specialists note, this approach minimizes the risk of damaging adjacent anatomical structures of the heart. In addition, the combined minimally invasive intervention allows patients to recover faster. Currently, only a few clinics in Russia use this technology.
