The Pentagon has added KNITU-KAI to the list of organizations threatening the national security of the United States.

      The U.S. Department of Defense has added Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev (KNITU-KAI) and 32 other Russian scientific, educational, and research-production organizations to the list of foreign institutions that pose a threat to U.S. national security. In total, the list compiled at the end of the 2025 fiscal year (which ended on September 30, 2025) includes 130 academic and research organizations from Russia, China, and Iran. The Pentagon will not fund research conducted in collaboration with the listed institutions. The U.S. military department also recommends that American researchers, academic organizations, and industry partners "exercise extreme caution when considering issues of cooperation, funding, or information exchange with any institution included in this list." In addition to KNITU-KAI, the list includes Lomonosov Moscow State University, National Research University Higher School of Economics, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute," Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and MIREA. Furthermore, the list includes Tomsk Polytechnic University, Ural Federal University, Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky, Astrakhan State University, N.G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy, several institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences (such as the M.V. Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics and P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute), as well as several research-production organizations.
