Master of Sports Adelina Serova trains prize winners of all-Russian tournaments in Mendeleevsk.

      As part of the project "Made in Mendeleevsk: the history of folk talents and craftsmen," we will tell the story of the young taekwondo coach of the "Batyr" sports school, Adelina Serova. Her love for martial arts was instilled by her father, a coach, while her pedagogical talent was inherited from her mother and older sisters. At just 26 years old, she is a master of sports and a successful coach at the "Batyr" sports school. Together with her sister Alina Salimullina, they turn children into prize winners of all-Russian and international tournaments, proving that perseverance and faith in a student can create miracles.

      A journey that began at three years old

      Adelina's journey in taekwondo began in early childhood. "My father brought me when I was only three years old. I immediately started training with my sister Alina, who was a role model and a true idol for me," recalls the coach. Competitive practice came later, around the ages of 10-12, when the first trips to tournaments and training camps began. Having gone through a serious sports school, Adelina earned titles as a three-time champion of the Republic of Tatarstan, won competitions in the Volga Federal District, and ranked among the top five at the Russian championships.

      The final transition to coaching occurred in 2022-2023. The decision was not easy: "Combining my own training with full-fledged work with a group is very inconvenient. I had to choose." Choosing pedagogy, Adelina gathered her first group and is now working with some students for already 7-8 years. It was at this moment that her love for sports, passed down from her father Rinat Dzhavdatovich, and her gift for nurturing, inherited from her mother, educator Svetlana Yuryevna, and her sisters, came together.

      The main secret of Adelina's success lies in her love for children and her ability to find common ground with them. "I am on the same wavelength with the kids. I enjoy sharing experiences, and I genuinely rejoice when they learn from me, and I learn from them. It's a constant connection," shares the coach. According to Adelina, she is particularly interested in working with older age groups, where results are already visible, and productive interaction with parents is established. Meanwhile, younger students, looking at the successes of their older peers, are also eager to win, creating healthy competition in the gym from the very first years of training.

      One of Adelina's main prides is her student Ariadna Tarasova. A modest and quiet girl who once combined hockey and taekwondo, today she has fully dedicated herself to martial arts. Her perseverance and determination led to an outstanding result: at the Russian Cadet Championships (12-14 years old) held in Nalchik, she won a bronze medal. This success was a logical outcome of a year of hard work. Starting with a victory in the republic and a loss in her first fight at last year's Russia in Lyubertsy, Ariadna did not give up but began training every day, additionally coming an hour before the main training to step by step reach her goal.

      The athlete has a busy season ahead: preparation for the international tournaments "Russian Open" in Odintsovo, Moscow region (August) and competitions in Serbia (September). If she manages to take a prize-winning place at these events, the team will receive a ticket to the European Championships in Romania in November. "For me, taekwondo is life. I started looking at the older kids in the gym and realized that I also want to stand on the podium. My dream is to win in Europe and make my coach the happiest. I know we will succeed," shares Ariadna.

      Success and pride

      "There is no greater pride for me than seeing my children grow and achieve their goals. I have walked this path myself and know the value of every minute of training. Being a coach is a colossal responsibility that requires stress resistance and the ability to keep emotions in check to guide and lead. But when a child comes in with shining eyes, I understand – we will manage, because only constant daily work can lead to high results. And when they stand on the podium, all the difficulties seem worthwhile — it is for such moments that it is worth engaging in this incredibly challenging yet interesting work," concludes the coach.
