From September 1, new measures to protect citizens from telephone fraud come into force in Russia. Subscribers will now be able to opt out of mass calls through their personal account on the operator’s website or in the mobile app. According to RIA Novosti, mobile operators are also required to label business calls. The subscriber’s phone screen will display the name of the company or individual entrepreneur and the call category — “Bank,” “Advertising,” “Real Estate,” “Telecommunications Services,” and others. The label is limited to 32 characters. These measures are part of the law on protecting citizens from fraudsters, which came into force on June 1. The document provides for about 30 initiatives that are being implemented in stages. Earlier, within its framework, a ban was introduced on the use of foreign messaging apps for communications between employees of government bodies, banks and telecom operators and clients, and the delivery of messages from Gosuslugi during phone calls was also restricted.
