Major renovations of four dairy food distribution points have been completed in Kazan. Now parents of more than 3,000 babies will be able to receive products in comfortable conditions. One of the renovated points is located in the branch of Children’s City Polyclinic No. 10 on Yu. Fuchik Street. Over four months workers equipped a comfortable entrance area, a separate stroller zone, and also installed additional refrigeration equipment. The city’s mayor, Ilsur Metshin, inspected the renovated distribution point.

“Every month in Kazan more than 11,000 children receive necessary dairy food at 22 distribution points. Thanks to the initiative of the Rais of Tatarstan, Rustam Nurgalievich Minnikhanov, major renovations will be carried out in 14 of them over the next three years. One of the first to be renovated was the dairy kitchen on Fuchik Street — it had not been updated since its opening in 1984. Today this is a completely new space: bright rooms, modern design, a convenient entrance area and a specially equipped place for baby strollers. All this adds coziness and comfort for mothers. About 1,100 babies receive food here monthly. We congratulate the polyclinic staff and all residents of the district on the opening of the renovated dairy kitchen. May the new space serve the health of children and bring warmth and care to everyone who comes here,” said Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin.

Since 1984, a children’s dairy kitchen had been located at Yu. Fuchik St., 72. With the start of the program to provide children with special dairy food products and formulas “BÉLÉKECH” in 2012, the premises were transferred to the children’s polyclinic. Before the opening, only the entrance area of the distribution point was renovated, and the walls were painted and the ceiling whitewashed.

“The premises are more than 40 years old, and calling them dilapidated would be an understatement. Walls, ceilings, utilities — everything required repair. And so in 2024 a republican program for the renovation of milk and food distribution points was adopted. Polyclinic No. 10 in Kazan was included in this program in the very first year,” said Liliya Mukhametgatova, chief physician of Children’s City Polyclinic No. 10.

Major renovations began in March this year. Over four months workers refurbished the entrance area and interior premises. There is now a separate stroller zone and a spacious hall. In addition, electrical wiring, water supply and drainage networks were replaced, and video surveillance and ventilation systems were installed.

The distribution point has one refrigerated chamber, which was completely renovated. The room can hold up to 2.7 tonnes of product. Four refrigeration units were also installed at the distribution point, along with two bactericidal irradiator–recirculators, a device for measuring air humidity and temperature. Two platform carts were purchased to make product distribution easier for staff.

Dairy products are delivered to the distribution point once a week. As before, parents can receive adapted formulas, milk, kefir and cottage cheese at two service windows. One is intended for food for children from 0 to 1 year, the other for children from 1 to 3 years. These are children from families whose per capita income does not exceed the subsistence minimum established in the republic, children who have medical indications according to a doctor’s conclusion, as well as those with HIV infection or born to HIV-infected mothers.

In total, 11,000 little Kazan residents receive dairy food monthly, including the one-and-a-half-year-old son of Elena Nilova.

“We were getting products here even 12 years ago with our first child. First of all, it was inconvenient to enter the distribution point. Initially the entrance area was shaped like an ‘L’ and had two doors. With a stroller, of course, it was inconvenient. We also didn’t have a stroller area, so in the small room everyone stood with strollers and children. The queue was large, and now it’s much more convenient. You arrive, park the stroller and go get the food,” the mother shared.

Today there are 22 dairy food distribution points operating in ten children’s medical institutions in the city. On average 135 tonnes of dairy products are delivered there each month, with an annual volume of 1,620 tonnes.

This year three more dairy food distribution points were also extensively renovated in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan — at the branch of City Children’s Hospital No. 1 (Gagarina St., 89), at the branch of Children’s City Polyclinic No. 11 (Avangardnaya St., 89) and at the branch of City Children’s Polyclinic No. 6 (Kurchatov St., 10).

Next year in Tatarstan the program plans to carry out major renovations of 32 dairy food distribution points, nine of them in Kazan. The premises will undergo construction and installation works, installation of new refrigeration equipment, and the furnishing and equipping of inventory.

The inspection was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan — Head of the Kazan Health Department Vladimir Filatov, the heads of the administrations of Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts Albert Salikhov and others.
