In June, a flight departing from Kazan to Moscow was delayed at Kazan airport due to the airline’s fault. The wait time for departure exceeded nine hours, but passengers were not accommodated in a hotel.
The airline, whose name was not specified in the press release of the Privolzhsk Transport Prosecutor’s Office, was fined 21,000 rubles for violating passengers’ rights at Kazan International Airport. The sanctions were applied following an inspection by the Privolzhsk Transport Prosecutor’s Office, which revealed serious violations in the handling of the delayed flight to Moscow. According to the agency, the incident occurred in June: the flight was delayed by more than nine hours, and the carrier did not provide passengers with the legally mandated hotel accommodation. Based on the violations identified, Rospotrebnadzor initiated a case under Article 14.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet standards), imposing a fine of 21,000 rubles. It is worth noting that this is the second high-profile case of passengers’ rights being violated in Tatarstan recently. Earlier it was reported that a resident of Naberezhnye Chelny won 965,000 rubles in compensation from Turkish Airlines in court for canceled airline tickets. As previously reported, representatives of the All-Russian Association of Passengers sent a proposal to the Russian Ministry of Transport demanding tougher liability for foreign airlines for violating the rights of Russian passengers. According to Kommersant, the reason for the proposal was underloading of baggage on Turkish Airlines flights. The airline itself justified its decision by the need to increase fuel reserves amid airport closures to incoming aircraft.
