Residents of Kazan will celebrate Leo Tolstoy's birthday at the writer's monument.

      On September 9, as part of the celebration of the 197th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy’s birth, a laying of flowers at the writer’s monument will take place in the L.N. Tolstoy square, and a cultural program will be held at the L.N. Tolstoy Museum. The name of Leo Tolstoy is inseparably linked with Kazan, where he lived for six years. His impressions of Kazan are reflected in the works "Childhood", "Boyhood", "Youth", "After the Ball", his later philosophical work "A Confession" and in the novel "War and Peace". It was here that Tolstoy made his first literary attempts, began keeping a diary and came to the idea of rethinking life’s values. In Kazan, in his words, "the birth of a genius" took place. The program of the classic’s birthday celebration will include the traditional laying of flowers at L.N. Tolstoy’s monument with the participation of public and cultural figures, schoolchildren and students. Guests will also be able to join the interactive program "Museum Promenade at the Gortalov Estate", lectures and tours at the museum.

      Representatives of state and public organizations of Kazan and Tatarstan, as well as members of the Society of Russian Culture, will take part in the ceremony.
