Kazan residents will find it easier to connect to the Internet on the streets and in parks.
As of today, Kazan has 508 Wi‑Fi hotspots in shopping centers, hotels and stores. The head of Tatarstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Ayrat Khayrullin, noted that this number is insufficient and the network is planned to be expanded. The minister emphasized that city residents need internet access not only inside buildings but also outdoors. Most free hotspots are located indoors, and to connect people have to go inside, which is inconvenient for some. At the moment, 200 free Wi‑Fi hotspots have been installed on streets, in parks and squares, which more than 50,000 city residents have used over two to three months. According to Khayrullin, work to increase the number of public hotspots must continue. In the near future, 300 more will be added to the existing 200, and by the end of the year, depending on financial decisions, between 500 and 1,000 new hotspots may appear.
