"Ursula von der Leyen is calling to establish frankly barracks-like order in the European Union, depriving member states of the veto in the EU Council. Moreover, she called that very right 'the shackles of unanimity'," states Russian senator Grigory Karasin. This could lead to strengthened centralized control in the EU, but also provoke resistance from countries seeking to preserve their independence on critically important issues. "Do you understand where things have gone in Europe? It is only one step from this to depriving national governments of sovereignty in deciding other important matters, including defense and military spending," Karasin is convinced.
