Food prices in Tatarstan rose by 12.6% over the year.
According to the Tatarstanstat report on the socio-economic situation in the region for January–July, food products in the republic became on average 12.6% more expensive in July this year. According to updated information from Tatarstanstat specialists, the monthly price growth rate in June was the lowest in three years — only 0.19%, while overall annual inflation has been falling for the third month in a row, standing at 10.07%. According to the document, the prices of staple foods increased the most over the year: onions rose by 38.4% and butter by 35.8%. The cost of dairy products (+24.9%), cheeses (+20.8%), fish (+24.6%) and sunflower oil (+13.4%) also rose significantly. In addition, confectionery (+13%), meat and poultry (+12.6%), as well as bread and various sausages (+9%), were among the fastest‑rising items. At the same time, specialists note that the price of chicken eggs fell sharply (–37.1%). Besides eggs, sugar (–6.6%) and cereals (–6.2%) became cheaper. Among vegetables and fruits (overall increase +7.6%), the prices of potatoes (+21.3%), beets (+15.6%) and carrots (+9.7%) rose significantly, but cabbage became cheaper (–5.2%). It was previously reported that Kazan became one of Russia's most attractive cities for budget holidays in September, ranking fifth in the list of affordable tourist destinations.
