A bust of Hero of the Russian Federation Sergey Chebnyov was unveiled in Kazan.

      The ceremonial unveiling of a bust-monument to Hero of Russia, Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Chebnev, took place on the grounds of the military commandant’s office of the Kazan garrison.

      The officer with the callsign “Otmel,” a graduate of a tank school, became its 26th alumnus to be awarded the highest title. Sergey was born in 1979, and his childhood was spent in Zainsk, where he attended the “Forest Tale” kindergarten and School No. 2. In August 2024, during fierce fighting in the Sudzhansky District of Kursk Region, battalion commander Chebnev led his personnel, holding the defense of the strategically important settlement of Malaya Loknya for 12 days. On August 18, having led a counterattack to break out of the encirclement, he was wounded but continued to cover the withdrawal of his subordinates. Two days later, on August 20, the officer was killed heroically under mortar fire and an attack by kamikaze drones, ensuring the exit from the line of fire for more than 300 servicemen.
