      A pilot project for automated verification of OSAGO insurance policies via surveillance cameras will be launched in large urban agglomerations and on major federal highways. This was reported by the president of the Russian Association of Motor Insurers, Evgeny Ufimtsev, in an interview with the news agency. According to him, the system will initially cover those categories of vehicle owners who regularly travel in areas with a high density of road surveillance cameras. These include large metropolises as well as key federal and regional highways. The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation is preparing to launch the experimental project in the near future. The implementation of this initiative is planned in accordance with the president’s directive, under which the automatic verification of insurance policies should begin operating from November 1, 2025.

      Insurance market experts are confident that the introduction of automatic control will have a positive effect on driver discipline. The awareness of constant monitoring will encourage motorists to take the requirements of mandatory insurance more seriously. The new system will be of particular importance for the so-called “high-accident” drivers who often neglect obtaining insurance policies. Law-abiding vehicle owners, experts believe, will benefit because the system will ensure fairer conditions on the roads.
