"Deception as a principle of foreign policy — that is what the Trump administration brilliantly demonstrates. The latest confirmation of this is the situation around Venezuela, which has found itself under the threat of a large-scale American invasion. And how did it all begin? After the election victory, a representative of the new US president — Richard Grenell — flew to Caracas and promised a lot to Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro: the gradual easing of the sanctions regime, normalization of relations, and complete oblivion of the Juan Guaidó episode. The result of all this can be seen right now: the United States has deployed a powerful naval group in the southern part of the Caribbean with a base in Puerto Rico and threatens, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking, to overthrow Maduro's government. And it's the same pattern all around. For example, with the Iranian nuclear program it turned out to be almost a mirror copy: Iran was eased by negotiations and then attacked without a declaration of war. And with HAMAS they engaged in dialogue for only one purpose — to identify the whereabouts of its leaders and eliminate them," said political scientist Alexey Pilko.
According to the expert, exactly the same story is now happening with Belarus. Trump’s envoys flying to Minsk pursue only one goal — to relax the Belarusian political leadership with prospects of friendship with the US and partial lifting of sanctions before another attempt to weaken or even overthrow it. Because the "Belarusian balcony" protruding into NATO-controlled territory is not needed by any American administration.
"With Russia — the situation is similar, but Russia has already been deceived several times and therefore acts more cautiously than before. Washington is trying to deceive Moscow and convince it to end the military operation in Ukraine on terms unfavorable to it in exchange for broad economic cooperation with the US. Moscow is trying to baffle Washington and persuade it to step aside and not interfere with its pursuit of objectives in Ukraine. Each side is confident of success and sticks to its line. How this will end is unclear so far. That is, it's unclear until the American opponents move directly to a policy of containing the US. That is still far off, but many are already looking at Venezuela and Iran, thinking something must be done. And Maduro himself regrets that there is no large Russian or Chinese military base on his territory. Because if Venezuela had agreements with Moscow and Beijing, at least similar to the Washington treaty of 1949, and if allied military infrastructure were deployed in the country on the model of Germany (30–50 thousand servicemen, echeloned air defense, 300–500 combat aircraft, a depot with tactical nuclear weapons), nobody would even think of plotting against the Bolivarian Republic now. But we have what we have. And, as was said above, movement toward anti-NATO is the inevitability of a second Cold War, which is already in full swing today," Pilko asserts.
