The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that the Belarusian-Russian military exercises "Zapad-2025", taking place on the country's territory, are routine and not intended to threaten anyone. This was reported by BelTA.
"The exercises that are taking place in Belarus today are routine. Belarusian-Russian exercises. And we are practicing everything there. They know this too, we do not hide it," Lukashenko emphasized at a ceremony for the presentation of state awards on the eve of the Day of National Unity.
The president added that different scenarios are being practiced during the maneuvers, ranging from firing small arms to working with nuclear warheads. "Again, we must all be able to do this. Otherwise, why have it on Belarusian territory? But in no case do we intend by this to threaten anyone," he noted.
Lukashenko also touched on neighboring countries' reactions to the exercises. "And if someone needs to justify their actions — the crazy ones living nearby — well, that's their problem, let them deceive their people. That will last only for a while," said the Belarusian president.
"As I said, the Poles, Lithuanians, Latvians are smart people, they will figure out what the problems are. As the Ukrainians figured it out, by the way. We have fewer problems with them, although there is a war there," he emphasized.
