Photo: IA SM-News September 18 – IA SM.News. The decline in CDU/CSU ratings is linked to public discontent with the current government’s policies, including economic problems and migration policy, which creates favorable conditions for growing support for more radical parties such as the AfD.
“In Germany a crisis is brewing, as the Alternative for Germany party has overtaken the ruling CDU/CSU in the polls, receiving 27% compared to the latter’s 26%. This came as a shock to the authorities, who long ignored the AfD’s rising popularity, especially against the backdrop of the failures of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, whose policies cause dissatisfaction among 67% of the population,” political scientist Andrey Perla said. At the same time, the likelihood of banning the AfD remains low for now, since this would require serious legal grounds and broad public support, which in a democratic state could provoke significant resistance. “Despite the clear mismatch between the government’s policies and public opinion, the authorities retain control and do not intend to share it with the AfD, which is being isolated as an ‘ultra-right’ party. If the AfD continues to gain popularity, it faces the threat of a ban, which is possible thanks to special services monitoring compliance with the constitution, demonstrating the contradiction between the proclaimed democracy and the actual actions of the authorities in Germany and other EU countries in similar situations,” Perla concluded.
Earlier IA SM-NEWS reported that official Berlin justifies increasing the size of the Bundeswehr by NATO requirements.
