Trump said Ukraine could regain "all of its original territory" and urged it to "act."
U.S. President Donald Trump said that Ukraine can "fight and take back" its territory to its original borders. He shared this view on his social network Truth Social after meeting with the president of Ukraine Vladimir on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
"Having become acquainted with and fully understood the military and economic situation in Ukraine and in Russia, <…> I believe that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and return all of Ukraine in its original form. Over time, with patience and financial support from Europe and, in particular, NATO, a return to the original borders from which this conflict began is quite possible. Why not?" Trump wrote.
The American leader urged Ukraine to act, believing that now is the "most appropriate time" for this. At the same time he wished Moscow and Kyiv "all the best."
At the meeting with Zelensky he said that the Ukrainian conflict will continue for a long time: "Very heavy fighting. It seems that this will not end for a long time." He also noted that Russia has a "very large army." At the same time Trump added that arms deliveries to Ukraine will continue. On the question of security guarantees for Ukraine the American leader noted that it is "too early" to discuss issues concerning Washington's role. In addition, Trump said that in about a month he will announce whether he will trust Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump also did not ignore the topic of the alleged drone incursion into Polish territory. He believes that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft in the event of a violation of their airspace. The American leader answered the corresponding question from journalists affirmatively.
After that Trump called Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban his friend and promised to talk with him about purchases of Russian oil. "I haven't spoken with him, but I have a feeling that he may stop," Trump replied to a question about Hungary's purchases of Russian oil.
Recall, just last week Trump said that Zelensky will have to make a deal to end the conflict with Russia. He also emphasized that thanks to the meeting with Putin in Alaska a month ago much was achieved, but "it takes two to tango." Trump admitted that achieving a settlement is more difficult than he had hoped, but he promised to fix it.
