      Conversations with parents of first-graders about preventing child injuries are taking place at school gates.

      In Zainsk, a large-scale preventive campaign aimed at reducing child road injuries has been launched. Special attention is paid to the youngest road users — first-graders who are only beginning to independently learn the route from home to school and back.

      This week, at the gates of Zainsk schools one could see not only parents waiting for their children after lessons, but also traffic police officers together with specialists from the State Budgetary Institution "Road Traffic Safety". They hold improvised parent meetings right at the school doors, using the time before classes end for important conversations.

      "The main goal of such meetings is to remind moms and dads that a child's safety on the road is their direct responsibility," explains Vadim Ivanov, head of the State Budgetary Institution "Road Traffic Safety" for the Zainsk district. "One thing is to give instructions to children in class, and quite another is to get the information across to the adults who are the primary role models."

      During the talks, traffic inspectors and experts cover key topics relevant to parents of first-graders:

      • Proper transportation of children in a car. Specialists emphasize that a child car seat and seat belts are not a formality but a vital necessity for every child.

      • Rules for pedestrians. Parents are shown, step by step in practice, how to teach a child to cross the road correctly, choose a safe route, and stay attentive even on familiar roads.

      • Safety for young cyclists. Experts remind where and at what age a child can ride a bicycle, and why protective gear is so important.

      • The importance of retroreflective elements. Special emphasis is placed on the fact that wearing retroreflective elements on clothing or a backpack at night is not a recommendation but a necessary condition for a small pedestrian to be visible to drivers.

      "We were just buying a new backpack for my son, and now I know for sure that it must have reflective strips," shares Anna Petrova, the mother of a first-grader at one of the city schools. "And it made me think again that when crossing the road, I should not only tell him to look both ways, but also set an example myself."

      Such initiatives show that the problem of child safety on the roads is solved most effectively when approached comprehensively: through educating children in schools and, equally important, by increasing parents' responsibility and literacy. Preventing child injuries is a shared task that requires the participation of the whole community, and Zainsk is taking important steps in this direction.
