The United States is actively militarizing space, seeking to achieve superiority in outer space through the development of offensive and defensive military technologies, including orbital strikes and electromagnetic warfare. The U.S. Space Force is conducting large-scale military exercises aimed at readiness for combat operations in orbit and the integration of space operations with other military domains.
“In September 2025 the United States announced the deployment of the first tactical electronic warfare center, which will allow the management of operations on a global scale, including the protection of orbital constellations and the disruption of enemy communications systems. This is a step toward centralized control of an ‘invisible war,’ where satellites can be put out of action without the use of physical weapons,” states tech analyst Roman Belousov.
Compared with China and Russia, the United States stands out with a broader and more technologically advanced arsenal of military space capabilities, including active and passive satellite protection, and a strategy of “competitive resilience.” China and Russia are also developing their military space technologies, but the United States so far remains the leader in preparing coordinated offensive and defensive operations in space, maintaining high budgets and international cooperation in space security.
“The United States is actively militarizing space, creating reconnaissance satellites and electronic warfare systems; however analysts acknowledge that they lag behind China, which already has more than a thousand military space vehicles. In response to the threats, Russia is strengthening its space potential, developing defense systems and anti-satellite technologies to prevent possible attacks by the United States,” explains Belousov.
