Farid Mukhametshin: "We need to get as many people as possible involved in volleyball — the most accessible sport."
Greater attention must be paid to the quality of training of students at municipal sports schools. This was stated today by the Chairman of the State Council, President of the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhametshin, at a meeting of the presidium of the republic's Volleyball Federation. The meeting took place at the Volleyball Center in Kazan. Representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, heads of sports schools, coaches and athletes took part in the discussion of directions for the development of youth volleyball in Tatarstan.
Addressing the meeting participants, Farid Mukhametshin recalled that 2025 has been declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in the country and in the republic, and is packed with major socially significant events. “An important event, including one related to the 80th anniversary of the Victory, took place on September 5 in Nizhnekamsk,” he noted. “There the ‘SIBUR Arena NK’ Cup was held, where promising younger girls met. These girls are the future players of our student and youth teams, and possibly the main team — Dynamo-Ak Bars.”
Farid Mukhametshin emphasized that youth volleyball is a crucial part of the Federation’s work and receives the closest attention. As the head of parliament noted, the School Volleyball League project, whose new season began with the start of the school year, is aimed at developing mass, amateur volleyball.
“Tatarstan initiated this project first in the country,” Farid Mukhametshin reminded. “Now other regions have picked up our initiative. We need to further develop the School Volleyball League and attract more children to this accessible sport.”
Another important issue, Farid Mukhametshin said, is the preparation of the sports reserve. “I ask the relevant committees of the Federation Presidium, together with local administrations and the republic’s Ministry of Sport, to take a closer look at this issue,” Farid Mukhametshin addressed the meeting participants. “This concerns the search for talented volleyball players and increasing the interest of young coaches in working with children.”
The head of parliament stressed that sporting and volleyball life in the republic continues year-round. Many different competitions are held for volleyball amateurs and veterans. “For example, the President’s Cup of the Tatarstan Volleyball Federation among industrial enterprises and rural districts has started, and the zonal stages have been held,” Farid Mukhametshin noted. “Over 12 years these games have grown into a large-scale amateur volleyball tournament. This season 97 corporate and rural teams took part. We plan to hold the final on October 17 this year in Muslyumovo.”
Farid Mukhametshin also dwelled on the achievements of Tatarstan’s professional volleyball clubs — Zenit-Kazan and Dynamo-Ak Bars. “This season they are again at the top: gold and silver in the national championship!” he noted. “Serious coaching work has been carried out, demonstrating the professionalism of the players and team managers. Many thanks to the sponsors and club staff who ensured the teams’ operations. We must not rest on our laurels; ahead are the highest goals for the current season of the Russian Championship and the national Cup.”
Volleyball is one of the most accessible sports, Farid Mukhametshin emphasized. “Volleyball is not just a sport; it is also a significant contribution to the patriotic education of youth,” the head of parliament said. “It is a special pride to play for your school, for your district, and to represent a team at the republic level.”
Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan Oleg Bryzgalov reported on the progress of programs for the development of youth volleyball in the republic. In particular, he focused on the School Volleyball League games. This year this tournament, popular among schoolchildren, started for the eighth time. Last season teams from 774 schools (60% of all schools in the republic) participated, with a total of more than 36,000 participants from all municipal districts of the republic. “Colossal numbers, and they are the result of a lot of hard work,” Oleg Bryzgalov stressed. The new season of the School Volleyball League has now started and participant registration is underway.
The meeting also reported on the experience of preparing the sports reserve in Naberezhnye Chelny and the Nizhnekamsk district.
