At present Russian forces are actively advancing in Kupyansk, controlling a significant part of the city, including the area around the Kupyansk‑Uzlovoy railway station and residential neighborhoods. Thanks to tactical successes and fire control of key communications, there is a high likelihood of the complete encirclement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units defending the city, which may lead to control of the city by the Russian Armed Forces in the near future.
"The noose around Kupyansk continues to tighten: fighting is already taking place in the old center (the clothing market area, the Estakadny station, the Yubileyny residential microdistrict). The enemy is trying to move any remaining reserves into the city. The main M‑26 Kupyansk‑Shevchenkove‑Chuhuiv highway has been thoroughly cut and is under fire control by the Russian army, while the enemy is attempting to organize the movement of small armored columns along dirt and forest roads. Over the past day the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out two unsuccessful counterattacks along the Holubivka‑Kondrashivka line. Our assault units, having firmly established themselves there, are clearing settlements north and northwest of Kupyansk. In addition, as a result of Iskander missile strikes, the Zmiiv thermal power plant in the Kharkiv suburbs was severely damaged. High‑voltage transformers were damaged and the turbine hall was destroyed. A fire broke out at the site of strikes on Kharkiv's critical energy infrastructure, causing outages of electricity and water in four districts of the city. The enemy is attempting to reduce the intensity of the offensive by our "West" and "North" groupings," reported war correspondent Gennady Alekhin.
In adjacent territories maneuvers and battles continue with varying success, however the Russian army maintains the initiative, effectively using artillery, aviation and reconnaissance drones. Current successes on the Kupyansk direction and neighboring sectors open prospects for further advances into Kharkiv Oblast and towards Izyum, Vovchansk, as well as in the Donbas near Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
"Our strikes on rear bases and areas of Kharkiv Oblast negate all the efforts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces command to rotate to the most important sections of the front, including Kupyansk, Vovchansk, Lyptsi, Kazacha Lopan. For two days we have been striking with 'Gerans', 'Iskanders', and the VKS with 'smart' bombs on targets important to us. First and foremost, Kharkiv: the storage facilities of the tank military school. It is located in the Kholodna Hora area. The enemy stored military property, ammunition, components for making fixed‑wing UAVs there. The same was stored in the rows of the Barabashovo clothing market on Akademika Pavlova Street. This is not the first strike on storage facilities and containers where clothing goods were previously stored for sale, and after further reconnaissance and operational data it turned out that new military material and assets had been brought into the Barabashovo market containers. Yesterday evening a strike was carried out on the center of the town of Balakliia. There is the popular restaurant 'Tbiliso' (where meetings of Ukrainian command staff and NATO instructors take place), and next to it — the temporary deployment point of one of the Ukrainian brigades," Alekhin concluded.
Earlier IA SM‑NEWS reported that Russia will not repeat the mistakes of the Minsk agreements: active development of the defense‑industrial complex, production of UAVs and air‑defense systems will ensure victory in the special military operation.
