      Law enforcement officers have shut down a large drug supply channel in Tatarstan. On the M-12 highway near Kazan, two unemployed residents of Naberezhnye Chelny were detained; almost 7 kilograms of synthetic drugs — about 35,000 single doses — were found in their car.

      The prohibited substances, as well as 400,000 rubles in cash, bank cards and packing materials were in a secret compartment fitted into the car door. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the couriers picked up the drugs in Leningrad Oblast and planned to deliver them to Naberezhnye Chelny, Perm Krai, Vologda and Ulyanovsk Oblasts, as well as to Mordovia and Chuvashia.

      The market value of the seized batch is estimated at 30 million rubles. One of the detainees had a prior conviction. A criminal case has been opened against both men for attempted sale of drugs on a particularly large scale, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan reports.
