      On October 2, Russia officially observes the Day of Secondary Vocational Education. The holiday was established by Presidential Decree of the Russian Federation in 2022 to develop and popularize SVE. The date was chosen not by chance: it was on October 2, 1940, that the system of state labor reserves of the USSR was created, which became the basis for vocational and technical education in the country. Today the SVE system, which unites technical schools and colleges, plays a key role in training qualified personnel for the real sector of the economy. On this day educational institutions traditionally hold open days, ceremonial assemblies, and concerts.

      Urologist Day

      October 2 is the professional holiday of urologists. Urology is an important field of clinical medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary system, the male reproductive system, the adrenal glands, and other retroperitoneal organs. It is both a medical and surgical discipline. Specialists in this profession are present in every modern clinic, and routine check-ups with a urologist are recommended for all people over 40 to timely detect possible problems.

      International Day of the Social Educator

      This young professional holiday was established in May 2009 at the International Conference of Social Educators in Copenhagen, which was attended by representatives from 44 countries, including Russia. Social educators play a huge role in society. They help children, adolescents, and adults who face difficulties in the process of socialization to adapt socially. They pay particular attention to working with troubled adolescents, orphans, and children with disabilities, helping them not to feel isolated from society. Traditionally, scientific-practical conferences, seminars, and forums devoted to current social issues are held on this day.

      Birthday of electronic mail: October 2 is the day when the anniversary of the appearance of e-mail is celebrated. It was on this date in 1971 that the first network electronic message was sent.

      World Day of Farm Animals: This day is intended to draw attention to the condition of farm animals around the world.

      International Day of Non-Violence: Established by the UN General Assembly and coinciding with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of India’s independence movement and the philosophy of non-violence.

      Folk holiday — Trofim and Zosima

      In the folk calendar, October 2 is called Trofim and Zosima. In old Rus’ the so-called Bee Nine began on this day — nine days dedicated to preparing hives for the winter. The main tradition was to consume honey on an empty stomach, washing it down with warm water. In the evenings young people also gathered for “Trofim’s evenings,” where they met and chose partners.
