Doctors at the Republican Clinical Hospital saved a woman who accidentally swallowed her dental prosthesis. The clinic's press service reported this.
A 50-year-old resident of Kazan accidentally swallowed her dental prosthesis. She repeatedly refused an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) as well as hospitalization, claiming the prosthesis would pass on its own.
A week later the woman was admitted to Surgical Department No. 1 because the prosthesis had become stuck at the junction of the small and large intestine.
Endoscopist Nail Iskhakov removed the prosthesis during a colonoscopy. The procedure was performed under the supervision of anesthesiologist-resuscitator Elena Chuenkova, since the prosthesis was already in a hard-to-reach location. With anesthesia, the removal was painless.
