Kiss guitarist Daniel Frehley has died.
Co‑founder and lead guitarist of the band Kiss, Daniel Frehley, has died at the age of 74. The musician died from injuries sustained after a fall in his studio last month, Variety reports.
“We are completely devastated and overcome with grief. In the final moments of his life we were fortunate to surround him with loving, caring, soothing words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this world,” reporters convey in a statement from his family.
After the fall, Frehley’s representatives assured that there was no threat to his health. However, it later became known that the musician had suffered a concussion, which forced him to cancel all concerts for the rest of the year. He was hospitalized and placed on life support. On Thursday, October 16, the family made the decision to remove him from the ventilator.
Frehley was born on April 27, 1951, in New York. In 1973 he became one of the founders of the band Kiss together with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss. He became one of the group’s leading musicians, writing and performing a number of the band’s key songs, including “Cold Gin,” “Parasite,” “Shock Me” and “Talk to Me.” In the early 1980s Frehley left Kiss due to creative differences and addiction problems. He formed his own band, Frehley’s Comet, with which he released several albums. In 1996 he reunited with the musicians from Kiss and continued to collaborate with them until 2002. After that he left the band again, focusing on solo work and occasional concert performances.
