Chernyshov proposed giving working fathers five extra days off per year.
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov sent an appeal to the head of the Russian Ministry of Labour, Anton Kotyakov, proposing that working fathers, adoptive parents and guardians of children under 14 be granted the right to five additional paid days off per year, RIA Novosti reports. For parents of children with disabilities it is proposed to raise the age threshold to 18. Chernyshov noted that these days could be used to address matters related to child-rearing, such as doctor’s appointments and participation in school events. The appeal emphasizes that modern labor realities often limit men’s ability to take an active part in their children’s lives, creating an imbalance in family responsibilities. The deputy speaker believes that implementing this initiative will help fathers participate more actively in raising their children, relieve mothers, and underscore the priority of family well‑being in the country’s social policy.
