      In Kazan, staff at the trauma center on Safiullin Street turned to rescuers for help when they were unable to remove a ring from a child’s swollen finger on their own.

      According to the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Republic of Tatarstan, zonal search-and-rescue detachment No. 2 arrived at the scene. Using a special tool, the rescuers carefully freed the finger.

      The agency’s staff remind: if a ring is too tight, it should be removed as soon as possible. With severe swelling this can be difficult and may require specialist intervention.

      Before going to a trauma center or EMERCOM, you should lather the finger with soap, then thread a piece of string under the ring and wind it tightly around the finger, turn by turn: from the ring, across the joint to the middle of the finger. Then take hold of the end threaded under the ring and begin to unwind the string. As a result, the ring will come off the finger. Don’t forget the “grandmother” method either — lather the finger under cold water.
