The State Duma adopted in the third reading a law expanding the list of grounds for receiving free legal assistance with regard to representation in courts in cases of violations of citizens' labor rights. Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurship, coordinator of the United Russia party’s federal project "Entrepreneurship," Alfia Kogogina commented: "Under the adopted initiative, citizens whose labor rights have been violated will be able to receive free legal assistance and protection. Under the law, socially vulnerable categories of citizens have the right to receive free legal assistance, including low-income people, those affected by extraordinary disasters, as well as persons with disabilities, veterans, large families, and orphans."
In accordance with the amendments to Article 20 of the Federal Law "On Free Legal Aid in the Russian Federation," state legal bureaus and lawyers participating in the free legal aid system will be able to represent citizens' interests in courts when considering cases concerning an employer's refusal to enter into an employment contract that violates guarantees established by the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, on reinstatement at work, recovery of wages, including for the period of forced absence from work, and on compensation for moral harm caused by unlawful actions of the employer.
