Tatarstan boxer Vladimir Yamkov is the gold medalist of the European Balkan Tournament.
A Tatarstan boxer and graduate of the Kazan Suvorov Military School, Vladimir Yamkov, achieved a triumphant victory at the Open European Balkan Championship among men, women and juniors. The tournament was held in the Bosnian town of Pale and brought together the strongest boxers from across Europe. On his way to the final, Vladimir Yamkov defeated decorated athletes from Germany and Serbia. In the final, the boxer representing Tatarstan faced multiple-time winner and medalist of major international tournaments — Montenegro’s Danilo Markovic. Yamkov convincingly took the first and second rounds from his opponent, and in the third he defeated the Montenegrin by technical knockout.
The athlete expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the PGUFKSIT college and to his personal coach Albert Salahov. Vladimir also thanked the coaches of the Russian national team Ivan Solomonov and Alexander Malyutin for their masterful preparation for the tournament and the head coach of the Russian national team Oleg Menshikov for his strategic leadership and trust.
“This victory is not just a gold medal in the young boxer’s collection. It is a signal to the entire youth boxing world. A signal that Russian athletes, despite everything, continue to fight, win and honorably represent their country on the international stage. Vladimir Yamkov, through his will, hard work and talent, has proven that for a true champion there are no insurmountable obstacles,” Sergey Ignatiev, deputy general secretary of the Russian Boxing Federation and chairman of the Boxing Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, told a Tatar-inform journalist.
