An elderly resident of Naberezhnye Chelny was trapped by fraudsters for a month.

      Under various pretexts they extorted 6 million rubles from him. The scheme was not one of the simplest: the pensioner did not transfer funds to accounts but personally handed cash to various couriers. Meetings took place near the house where the pensioner lives. The money was handed over after a prearranged signal. Incidentally, bank employees, having noticed suspicious transactions, repeatedly warned the client about the danger. But the fraudsters' arguments proved stronger. The turning point came when the 76-year-old man came to the bank branch again. The bank employees did not remain indifferent and called the police. The police spoke with the pensioner and finally explained the essence of the scam to him. The information obtained from the elderly Naberezhnye Chelny resident helped to detain two young people who had been working as couriers. They turned out to be a 19-year-old female student and a 25-year-old manager. A criminal case has been opened on grounds of the offense provided for in Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Fraud." The police continue to clarify all the circumstances of the case. The suspects' involvement in other similar crimes is being checked.
