In September 2025 Russians began taking out new credit cards less frequently. According to the National Bureau of Credit Histories, this month banks issued only 1.2 million credit cards, which is 8.9% less compared with August 2025 (1.4 million) and 36.5% less than September 2024 (1.9 million).
The same trend is observed in Tatarstan. In September 2025 residents of the republic received 34.2 thousand new credit cards. That is 9.3% less than the previous month (37.7 thousand). As a result, the region ranked eighth among regions by the number of credit cards issued.
The total credit limits on new credit cards in September 2025 also decreased. This figure amounted to 103.8 billion rubles. That is 26.5% less compared with August and 53% less than September of last year. A particularly noticeable drop in demand for credit cards is observed in other regions. The leaders in this indicator are Crimea (-13.8%), Moscow (-12.6%), Orenburg Oblast (-11.4%) and Novosibirsk Oblast (-11%), as well as Saint Petersburg (-10.9%).
Recall that by the end of 2025 Tatarstan’s GRP is expected to be at 102.4%. This forecast is based on results for eight months.
