      Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to enshrine in law a provision obliging regions to provide housing to young doctors — graduates of medical universities. He made the statement during a plenary session of the lower house of parliament.

      “We proceed from the assumption that if graduates go tomorrow to work at a hospital, the regions must provide housing to former students, the now young specialists. And this is the key issue. We must understand this. And it must be reflected in our laws. Colleagues, if this is not in place, it must definitely be included in the law,” Volodin emphasized.

      The Speaker of the State Duma noted that despite established additional payments for medical workers serving in rural areas, the problem of providing them with housing remains unresolved.

      “We must take this matter under control and see it through so that regions understand: there are 20 specialists missing at the district central hospital — build an apartment building for 20 families and provide housing. And do it now,” urged the Chairman of the State Duma.

      Students studying at medical universities under targeted programs funded by the federal budget will be able to avoid mandatory work placement after graduation by transferring to a fee-paying department. This proposal was voiced yesterday by Deputy Minister of Health of Russia Tatyana Semenova.
