State Duma deputies are discussing an initiative that would allow the use of maternity capital funds to pay for nanny services. However, as Tatyana Butskaya, First Deputy Chair of the Committee for the Protection of the Family, reported, before implementing this idea it is necessary to regulate the activities of childcare assistants. Butskaya noted that provided there is proper oversight of nannies’ training and vetting for reliability, it will be possible to move on to discussing this initiative. She also emphasized that the possibility of using maternity capital for nanny services could be analogous to the current practice of using it to pay for educational services and kindergartens. In addition, deputies are working on legally establishing the institution of nannies to ensure safety for both children and their families, as well as for the nannies themselves in the course of their work.
