A scientist from Kazan Federal University urged residents of Kazan to feed tits lard and seeds.

      In the cold season people should feed tits, sparrows and pigeons. This was told to Tatar‑inform by Ilgizar Rakhimov, head of the Department of Bioecology, Hygiene and Public Health at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of KFU.

      “I am of the opinion that birds should be fed. Winter is a harsh period, and we can help them survive difficult days. Birds do not die from the cold — their body temperature is above 40 degrees — but from hunger and exhaustion,” Rakhimov emphasized.

      According to him, tits are useful birds found in forests, gardens and parks. They nest near people and need supplementary feeding. These small yellow‑breasted birds especially like raw sunflower seeds and pieces of unsalted lard. Lard is a great joy for them.

      In addition, the KFU ornithologist debunked the myth about feeding ducks bread. “I am often asked — can ducks be fed bread? Someone spread a tale on the internet that ducks die after eating bread. No duck has ever died from eating bread,” Rakhimov concluded.
