Innopolis University announced a change of director.

The new head of the IT university will be Dmitry Vandyukov, who has been working on the development of the Innopolis innovation center since 2016. The current director, Iskander Bariev, decided to leave the post after serving in it since September 1, 2024. The staff were informed of the personnel changes in the university leadership at a general meeting today.

Dmitry Vandyukov assumes the new position on December 2; his candidacy was supported by the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The appointment documents were signed by the founders of Innopolis University — representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Land and Property Relations of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Roman Shaykhutdinov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan: “In Innopolis University there is a unique system of governance for the country, headed by a tandem of rector and director. The rector oversees the educational and scientific spheres, including fundamental research and academic matters, while the director is responsible for the university’s overall activities and handles administrative tasks, ensuring interaction with industry. Iskander Bariev decided to leave the university of his own accord, and Dmitry Vandyukov is coming to replace him — an excellent and efficient manager who has been involved in the Innopolis project for nine years. He understands the specifics of the processes, the strategic goals and the connections that ensure interaction between the city, the SEZ, the university and industry. I am confident that working together with the rector will bring a significant improvement in the quality of effective development and new directions for it. From December 2, acting mayor, until the next elections are held, will be Ildar Khuzzyatov, who is the head of the city’s executive committee and has been involved in the development of the Innopolis innovation center for 10 years.”

Together with Rector Alexander Gasnikov, the renewed leadership team will focus on strengthening the university’s leading positions as a technological, scientific and educational center in Russia and the world.

Dmitry Vandyukov: “A wonderful and highly effective team has formed at Innopolis University, which has already achieved significant results in both scientific and project areas. My main task — together with the rector — is to increase the university’s operational efficiency and develop new directions. A lot of work with the university team lies ahead.”

Iskander Bariev: “I am grateful for the trust and the unique opportunity to lead such an ambitious and promising project as Innopolis University. I am confident that the university remains in reliable hands with a strong and cohesive team of professionals. I sincerely wish the university dynamic development and steady progress toward the set heights. I firmly believe that great victories and significant achievements of global scale await it in the future.”

Alexander Gasnikov, Rector of Innopolis University: “I would like to thank Iskander Ilgizarovich for his work. I am confident that the transition of leadership to Dmitry Vladimirovich will be smooth and seamless. The position of director in the university’s structure is very complex and responsible. Knowing him personally and his experience in Innopolis, I have no doubt that work with him will be arranged as efficiently as possible.”

Dmitry Vandyukov has worked as a manager in the IT and telecommunications sectors since 2004. Prior to Innopolis he was engaged in developing digitalization in the region as First Deputy Minister of Informatization and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan and as Deputy General Director of Tattelecom. Since 2019 Dmitry Vandyukov was responsible for interaction with government bodies in the Innopolis SEZ. In June 2024 he was appointed mayor of Innopolis.
