      The Supreme Court of Tatarstan dismissed the appeals of the prosecution and the defense in the case of the former head of the republican civil registry office, Gulshat Nigmatullina. The prosecution insisted on replacing the suspended sentence with a real one — up to six years in a penal colony. However, the higher court upheld the original verdict — four years suspended with a fine of 500,000 rubles.

      As was proven, Nigmatullina organized the collection of bonuses from civil registry office employees for translating vital records into Russian, causing damage to the budget in the amount of more than 16 million rubles. The criminal case also involves her deputy Renat Akhmetzyanov and chief accountant Landysh Sharafutdinova, who participated in the scheme.
