More than a hundred events for the Decade of Persons with Disabilities and 105 ice rinks: Kazan's plans for the winter

      "Thanks to Raisa of Tatarstan's 'Our Yard' program we have the opportunity for the sixth year running to bring our courtyards into good order at a brisk pace. 'Our Yard' is not just about asphalt and lighting. It is a crucial program that genuinely and consistently improves the state of the urban environment and makes it more comfortable for people," were the words with which the first deputy head of Kazan, Denis Kalinkin, opened the business Monday. As noted by the Chairman of Kazan's Committee for External Improvement, Albert Shainurov, the sixth year of the 'Our Yard' program has been completed in Kazan. This year 466 courtyard areas were upgraded for a total of almost 4.3 billion rubles.

      Across the city, 600,000 square meters of asphalt were renewed, more than 5,000 small architectural structures were installed, and over 120 new container sites were created. As a result of the work, residents received 5,000 new parking spaces, and overall the improvements touched the lives of more than 100,000 Kazan residents.

      In total, over the six years of the program, 2,700 courtyard areas in the city have been renewed. That is more than 3.6 million square meters of asphalt and 30,000 new parking spaces for over 600,000 residents of Kazan. To date, almost 80% of the courtyards that required repairs have been upgraded.

      "Now even non-standard territories are easily transformed"

      According to Shainurov, substantial changes have occurred in courtyard improvement over the years of the program. If at its launch it was necessary to carefully organize and standardize the approach, now even non-standard territories are transformed without difficulty.

      The smallest project this year was the yard at 53 Moskovskaya Street. Its area was just 583 square meters, and it serves 43 residents of Kazan.

      The largest was a complex uniting 11 apartment buildings on Fuchika Street, Chishmyale Street and Pobedy Avenue. The total area of this territory exceeds 70,000 square meters, and about 7,000 Kazan residents live in these buildings.

      "We continue to strive for maximum involvement of residents in the development of projects. It is up to them to decide how to make the territory as comfortable as possible," emphasized Shainurov.

      Shainurov also noted that in Kazan the 'Our Yard' program is synchronized with the federal project "Infrastructure for Life". As an example he cited the boulevard on Serov Street, which was upgraded this year — simultaneously with the boulevard's improvement, eight courtyard areas were renewed this year. And in general, since 2022, 27 courtyards around the boulevard have already been upgraded.

      "The result is already visibly real. Over six years, repairs have been carried out in the courtyards of 600,000 residents — almost half of Kazan's population. Almost 80% of courtyards have been brought into order. We are moving toward the goal. And the goal is zero bad courtyards in Kazan," summarized Denis Kalinkin.

      Another topic of the business Monday was the upcoming Decade for Persons with Disabilities in Kazan, which will take place from December 1 to 10. "This is another opportunity to draw society's attention to the problems of people with disabilities," noted Azat Abzalov, deputy head of Kazan's executive committee for social issues.

      According to him, about 84,000 people with disabilities live in Kazan, including 6,500 children, and systematic work with them is carried out continuously.

      As part of the upcoming decade, more than 100 events will be held in various districts of the city. For example, on December 6 a table tennis tournament will be held at the Boxing and Table Tennis Center.

      In addition, on December 1 the annual children's festival "Listening with the Heart" will take place at Children's Music School No. 18. And on December 3 the Said-Galiyev Palace of Culture will host the 18th Republican festival "Let's Hold Hands, Friends."

      The series of major events will be continued by the final and gala concert of the All-Russian festival "Kind Wave", which will take place from December 1 to 4. This year the festival will be held for the sixth time.

      "Decade for Persons with Disabilities is an important event that serves not only as a reminder of the strength of spirit and resilience, but also as an opportunity for society to unite in support of people with disabilities," concluded Abzalov.

      "On the threshold is the long-awaited season of winter sports. Winter in Kazan is a time of major sporting events," began the report on the city's preparation for the winter sports season the chairman of Kazan's relevant committee, Linar Garipov.

      He also shared that a total of 105 places for skating will be organized across the city. Garipov added that on November 26 the first home Russian championship in bandy will be held at the renovated Raketa stadium.

      Garipov noted that throughout the winter season numerous competitions in cross-country skiing, hockey, speed skating and many other winter disciplines will be held in Kazan.
