A fire broke out at Volkov Street, 54 in Kazan in a two-story non-residential 19th-century building. The fire quickly spread through the old house. According to the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for Tatarstan, the blaze was promptly extinguished, and there are no casualties. Specialists from the State Fire Supervision are currently determining the cause of the incident. The building is known for a memorial plaque on the facade to Ivan Volkov — a member of the Kazan Committee of the RSDLP(b) and head of the city staff of the Red Guards in 1917. Local residents note that the historic house has repeatedly been subjected to vandalism over many years. Volkov Street includes several significant cultural heritage sites, among them the House of the Bogorodskikh family, as well as the buildings where the poet Velimir Khlebnikov and the composer Salikh Saydashev once lived.
