“Ulybka” and “Legenda” study cybersecurity: a preventive event was held at the Energetik Palace of Culture.
Leisure department staff used an interactive format to tell children about rules for safe online behavior and how to counter recruitment
Digital literacy: why is it important for today’s children?
Today’s children are the first generation growing up in an era of total digitalization. Social networks, messengers and online games have become an integral part of their lives. However, the virtual space holds not only opportunities for learning and communication, but also real threats: from fraud to psychological manipulation. Preventive conversations like this help develop critical thinking and a digital immune system in the younger generation.
Interactive format: learning through practice
To make a complex topic understandable and memorable, the event was organized as a live dialogue. Instead of a dull lecture, the organizers used interactive methods:
- Viewing and analyzing themed videos that clearly demonstrate manipulation schemes.
- Discussing real cases and model situations a child may encounter online.
- Practical advice from the event host, head of the leisure department Elena Khramova, on how to recognize a recruiter and stop attempts at outside influence.
This approach engaged every participant in the process and gave them not just theory but concrete tools for protection.
A memo for a child: how to recognize manipulation online?
During the meeting the children learned the key signals that should raise alarm when communicating online:
- Too personal questions. A stranger quickly turns the conversation to topics of family, feelings, fears and relationships.
- Demand for secrecy. Requests not to tell anyone about the conversation, especially parents.
- Emotional pressure. A manipulator may play on feelings of pity, fear, or the desire to feel “special.”
- Promises of quick benefits. Offers of easy money, gifts, or fame without effort.
The role of cultural institutions in fostering digital hygiene
Holding such events at the Energetik Palace of Culture shows that the task of raising a safe and responsible generation is being addressed collectively today. Cultural institutions are becoming an important platform not only for creative but also for social and personal development of children, going far beyond their traditional functions.
The preventive event for the “Ulybka” and “Legenda” ensembles was an important contribution to children’s safety in the digital world. The knowledge gained will help the young performers navigate the online space, critically evaluate information and protect themselves from manipulation. Such initiatives are a clear example of how, by working together, a healthy and safe environment can be created for the rising generation. Photo: MBU "Palace of Culture 'Energetik' ZMR RT"
