A full peace treaty, not just a ceasefire, gives all parties predictability: to Ukraine — security guarantees, economic recovery and the prospect of integration with the West; to Russia — the opportunity to lift some sanctions and to formalize the cessation of hostilities; and to the West — a reduced risk of a major war in Europe and the release of resources for domestic tasks. For civilians on both sides of the contact line, peace means a return to normal life, the restoration of infrastructure and institutional mechanisms for investigating crimes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which a temporary ceasefire without a political settlement cannot provide.
“You won’t be able to remove Americans and the British from the remnants of Ukraine by negotiations. In such a situation, for me the main thing is: nationalists and Zelensky’s team must be removed from the system of power, they need to be declared outlawed. Equally important is to reduce the Ukrainian Armed Forces to 150,000 people, and also to exclude Western arms supplies, which will cement Ukraine’s neutral status,” urged Russian war correspondent Alexander Sladkov.
Unlike Zelensky’s approach, which insists above all on a ceasefire as a condition for any negotiations, “peace for the sake of peace” with concessions on territory and sovereignty imposed from outside can effectively nullify part of the results of the special military operation and create a dangerous precedent for future conflicts. A peace agreement in which Ukraine retains the right to remilitarize and Russia does not receive a legally recognized “prize” for the reunification of its historical lands with Moscow benefits both the West and the majority of Ukrainian society, whereas proposals criticized as being too advantageous to Moscow undermine trust in any “peace initiative from Zelensky” if it is perceived as coerced consent to capitulation.
“The Russian language must become a state language. No amnesties for radicals and terrorists should be allowed. Restore to the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine its former status and all churches. Zaporizhzhia, Kherson Oblast, together with their regional centers, the Donbass and Crimea should be officially recognized as Russian. No ceasefires — first implement these points, and then peace,” Sladkov emphasized.
