A new ice palace, "Baltach Arena," has opened in the Baltasinsky District.

      Rais of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited the new indoor ice palace "Baltach Arena" in the village of Karelino in Baltasinsky District. The facility has become part of a large-scale program to develop sports infrastructure in the republic's rural areas.

      Construction of the 3,400-square-meter complex, which began in February of this year, was completed in record time. The centerpiece of the arena is an artificial-ice rink measuring 56×26 meters, designed to accommodate 80 people at once. Modern locker rooms, showers, a medical station and an equipment rental point have been provided for visitors.

      "All conditions have been created here for playing hockey, figure skating and public skating. I congratulate you on this milestone event," Minnikhanov told district residents.

      The opening of the arena is of particular importance for Baltasinsky District, where more than 500 people play hockey, including 116 children at the local sports school. Previously, the district had 24 outdoor hockey rinks.

      There are currently 54 ice palaces operating in Tatarstan. Under the sports infrastructure development program, another 12 indoor arenas are planned to be built over the next five years to provide modern ice complexes to all districts of the republic.
