The authors of the initiative say that introducing these restrictions is necessary because of the negative impact such drinks have on the health of the region’s residents.
It is proposed in Tatarstan to introduce by law a ban on the sale of non-alcoholic energy drinks in educational, healthcare, cultural and sports institutions. The corresponding bill has been submitted for consideration to the State Council of the republic. According to the explanatory note, the proposed measures are due to the “negative impact on citizens’ health from consuming non-alcoholic tonic drinks.” The document provides for a ban on the sale of such products in buildings and premises used for educational, medical, cultural and sporting activities.
The republic’s government will also receive the right to introduce additional restrictions that will apply to places of mass gatherings during public events, as well as during physical culture and sports competitions. If the bill is adopted, the new rules will come into force on September 1, 2026. This initiative continues the policy of restricting access to energy drinks that was started at the federal level – in May the State Duma established fines of up to 500,000 rubles for selling such products to minors. As Realnoe Vremya writes, the majority of Kazan residents support measures to limit the spread of energy drinks among young people.
As the Republic of Tatarstan’s State Committee on Tariffs reported earlier, tariffs will increase by 1.7 percent from the beginning of the year. The main indexation of tariffs has been postponed to October 1 of next year.
