There is still no compromise version of a plan for Ukraine: results of the meeting between Putin and Whitkoff

      Russian leader’s aide Yuri Ushakov said that the meeting at the Kremlin between the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the US leader’s special envoy, Steven Witkoff, devoted to a Ukrainian settlement, was constructive and substantive.

      According to Ushakov, the parties discussed several variants of a peace plan, including the question of territories, and agreed to continue contacts. The meeting lasted five hours.

      Several variants of a plan for settling matters in Ukraine were considered: “We, of course, discussed with our American colleagues the content of those projects, those documents that the Americans handed over to Moscow some time ago.”

      “We did not discuss specific wording, specific American proposals, but discussed the essence of what is contained in those American documents,” Ushakov said.

      After the first US peace plan variant on Ukraine, Russia received four more documents, which were also discussed at today’s meeting in the Kremlin: Trump’s 27-point plan, “then we received several more documents, namely four documents that were also discussed at the meeting today.”

      “I cannot disclose the substance of these documents. They all concern long-term peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine,” the presidential aide added.

      Results of the meeting

      According to Ushakov, there is not yet a compromise version of a plan on Ukraine; some American drafts are acceptable to Russia, some are not.

      The territorial question was raised at the meeting: “Territorial issues were discussed specifically.”

      Vladimir Putin assessed “the destructive actions that we see on the part of Europeans in the context of the settlement.”

      The Russian leader conveyed to Trump, via Witkoff, a friendly greeting and several important political signals “which his interlocutors noted.”

      The meeting at the Kremlin discussed, in particular, “the enormous prospects for future economic cooperation between the two countries.”

      Further actions

      As a result of the meeting in the Kremlin, Russia and the US did not move closer to each other on the issue of a Ukrainian settlement; contacts will continue.

      The possibility of a meeting between Putin and Trump “depends on what progress can be achieved on this path”: “We will work persistently and insistently through the line of aides and Foreign Ministry representatives.”

      The American delegation reported that after the meeting in the Kremlin it will return to the United States: “They did not promise us that they would go to Kyiv, they promised that they would return home.”
