In Tatarstan, the investigation into the murder of two sex workers has been completed.

      In Tatarstan a criminal case has been sent to court against a resident of Chelyabinsk Oblast who is accused of participating in a criminal group and of being involved in two murders. According to investigators, the group operated in several regions of Russia, including Tatarstan, where the key episodes of the case took place.

      According to the investigation, the husband-and-wife organizers created a network in 2012 to recruit women into prostitution. Their activities covered Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk and Nizhny Novgorod oblasts, as well as Bashkortostan and Tatarstan. The defendant was involved in this scheme and, investigators believe, took part in committing the crimes.

      In 2019 a 17-year-old girl was drawn into the illegal business. She later escaped the pimps' control, which, investigators say, was the reason for her murder. The group's organizer and the defendant tricked the girl and drove her to Verkhneuslonsky District. There, investigators say, they killed her, dismembered her body and hid it in the forest.

      Another episode also took place in Tatarstan. A woman involved in the illegal activity moved to Kazan with her two-year-old daughter. The group's organizer looked after the child. Investigators claim that later the organizer decided to take the girl for herself. In 2020 the child was kidnapped and registered to her using forged documents. The girl's mother, investigators say, was killed by the defendant along with another sex worker.

      The criminal investigation has been completed and handed over to the court.
