      A real snowy winter has finally stopped playing hide-and-seek and has come to Tatarstan. A steady freeze outside guarantees that the snow cover will not turn into gray slush by the New Year.

      The newly arrived snowy squall and blizzard have covered the entire city today, but Kazan residents are glad that winter has finally legitimately come into its own.

      “Great mood, snow, we’ve been waiting for winter for a long time,” said a pensioner.

      “Great, very great. Literally a week left until the New Year, so everyone was waiting, and I hope they got what they were waiting for,” shared a young father.

      Heavy snowfall has buried streets and roads; for motorists, getting through the snow mush and black ice is becoming a real winter trial. Level-7 traffic jams have been persisting all day on the busiest sections. The Tatarstan traffic police are urging drivers to refrain from long-distance trips because of the bad weather — today and tomorrow evening.

      However, city services are promptly clearing the roads, and drivers themselves are preparing in advance for such winter caprices.

      “I think many motorists are preparing for this season — a shovel and a scraper, and how to set the windshield wiper in what position. So, I think everyone is ready,” said a motorist.

      The same picture is seen in the courtyards — snow has covered playgrounds and residential parking lots.

      “Not to say they’re doing it extremely actively, but at least they are clearing it. You can’t say we’ve been buried,” said a Kazan resident.

      “When this weather is constant, then — yes, it’s always orderly, they clear it. But when it’s just starting, then, of course, some period of adaptation is required,” shared a young mother.

      According to meteorologists — already tomorrow a true Russian freeze will come to Tatarstan, temperatures will fall to −25°C.

      “A cold atmospheric front will pass through Tatarstan and, following the front, very cold Arctic air will descend on our districts. By the evening it will become sharply and significantly colder. At times snow and blizzards with visibility reduced to 1–2 kilometers, and in some areas icy roads,” commented the head of the meteorological forecasts department of the Office for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring — Irina Trushchina.

      On Wednesday and Thursday strong frosts will persist, however by Friday it will already become slightly warmer, from −8 to −16 degrees.
