Scientists from Kazan have created new compounds to fight cancer and infections.

      Specialists at the A. E. Arbuzov Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry (Federal Research Center Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences) have developed a new class of chemical compounds with anticancer and antibacterial activity. Laboratory tests have shown that these molecules are as effective as the best chemotherapeutic drugs, while they are expected to be significantly less toxic to patients.

      In addition, the compounds demonstrated impressive antibacterial properties, suppressing even antibiotic‑resistant strains and disrupting bacterial biofilms. This is especially important for treating wound infections and during implant placement.

      Researchers note that the discovery of this class of compounds opens new prospects for creating combination drugs that could be used to treat cancer patients with concomitant bacterial complications.
