      The authorities of Tatarstan are preparing a large-scale project to develop the road network through the implementation of several public‑private partnership projects. The republic is considering the construction of a number of new toll highways, including parallel routes for key exits from Kazan and major interdistrict roads. As Farit Khanifov, head of the republican Ministry of Transport, said at a pre‑New Year meeting with journalists, the goal of the initiative is to create additional roads that will be financed and operated jointly with business. One concrete project has already been submitted to the government for consideration: the company Alekseevskdorstroy has proposed a concession agreement to widen and thereafter convert to toll a 32‑kilometer section from the bridge over the Kama at the village of Sorochyi Gory to the approach to the village of Shali. The section is planned to be expanded to four lanes.

      Another promising but complex project is the Almetyevsk–Bavly road, about 100 km long. This segment will become a continuation of the already operating toll route Alekseevsk–Almetyevsk. As the minister noted, construction is complicated by the presence of numerous oil and gas networks and product pipelines along the route, which makes the project capital‑intensive.

      Also on the list of potential toll projects are a parallel to the Orenburg Tract in Kazan (the Laishevsky junction), a parallel to the Siberian Tract in the Derbishki area, as well as bypasses of settlements on regional roads. According to Khanifov, about ten large companies have already shown interest in investing in these infrastructure projects, RBC reports.

      Earlier it was reported that from January 1 to 6 a special “Magic Santa Claus Tram” will run on route number 5 in Kazan.
