A new dangerous telephone scam has been recorded in Kazan, in which fraudsters present themselves as members of the judiciary and deceive city residents.

The city’s district courts are warning residents that there has been an increase in calls from people claiming to be court officials. As Vesti Tatarstan clarifies, the scammers’ aim is to obtain citizens’ confidential personal data or confirmation codes from SMS messages. As the judicial institutions explain, their real employees would never discuss financial matters by phone, request codes from bank messages, or ask for other sensitive information under the pretext of involvement in a court proceeding. Scammers, on the contrary, actively use this false pretext, creating in the victim a sense of urgency and officialdom.

A genuine court employee may call a citizen only as part of official duties. Reasons for a call may include notification of the date and time of an upcoming hearing, a message that documents are ready for pickup, or coordination of other organizational details that do not require disclosure of personal data.

If the person receiving the call has the slightest doubt about the legitimacy of the caller, the safest decision is to end the conversation immediately. After that, it is recommended to call the relevant court back yourself at the official phone number, which can be found on its website or in a directory, to personally verify the information received. It was previously reported that a Kazan resident sold scammers a card for withdrawing funds for Dolina and now owes her 15 million.
